Chitwood Knot Pusher

Surgeon keeps tying hand free and grasps the Chitwood Knot Pusher in the opposite hand.

Surgeon squeezes the handle of the Chitwood Knot Pusher which “traps”the suture in the trap mechanism at the tip of the instrument.

Surgeon ties knot distal to the tip of the instrument with tying hand and grasps the Chitwood Knot Pusher in the opposite hand. An assistant is holding the free suture end.

Surgeon uses the Chitwood Knot Pusher to push down the knot to tighten and secure it. Offsetting the tip of the instrument from the knot while sliding down the suture makes the instrument slide more easily.
